PostgreSQL Database Expert

We are looking for a PostgreSQL Database Expert to join us in scaling up to the next level. The successful applicant will work on high end features of PostgreSQL and push the boundaries of what is possible with ORDBMS.

Oradian provides cloud-based tools to financial institutions in Africa and Southeast Asia. We are poised to scale operations in the six countries we currently work as well as entering new markets.

As Oradian is poised to grow its customer base exponentially every year, our PostgreeSQL Database Expert will need ample experience and enthusiasm to support company development.

Responsibilities

  • Optimise and tune the performance of database systems
  • Support development of compilers targeting PostgreSQL ORDBMS
  • Writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures for transaction processing and reporting
  • Design and expand OLAP systems
  • Educate application developers on PostgreSQL best practices
  • Optionally administer PostgreSQL database


Qualifications and experience

  • A minimum of five years experience as a database developer
  • Strong knowledge and experience developing complex SQL queries, analysing query plans and optimising query performance
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL internals
  • Expertise with procedural languages
  • Experience in PostgreSQL clustering, replication and backup is a plus
  • Knowledge of software development processes, including version control, documentation, code review, and testing
  • Experience working with Linux


Competencies

  • Highly motivated and able to work well in both team and solo settings
  • Experience identifying system requirements and specifications to achieve storage and performance objectives
  • Programming experience in JVM languages is a plus
  • Detail oriented
  • Fluent in English
